Hand Pies… is that one word or two?
Well guys, I would say that fall is in the air… or at least in the Pinterest air. It is certainly NOT fall here in my home state. I think it was about … ehh… 95 degrees today.
Needless to say, Pinterest has got me in the fall mood. As well as all of the fall decor around the shops. I love seeing all of the pumpkins and I keep wishing it would cool off here!!
Even though it’s a million degrees outside, this baby inside of me has been craving sweets and cinnamon! I’ve been so good (okay, not awesome) about staying away from sweets, but last week I couldn’t resist making these hand pies! Seriously, I RARELY want sweet things (I’m more of a salty chip girl) but this baby has really got me going on the sweets.
My husband went to the store the other day and got a bunch of apples. I’m not sure why he got so many… possibly wanting to eat them with peanut butter? But he was gone to work, and I was left home alone with these apples. Sorry apples, no peanut butter for you!
I didn’t have any pie crust around, lets be real… when and why would I have crust sitting around in my freezer. However I did have flour, water and butter…. duh.
I’ve made piecrust before, but this time I wanted to see if there was a way to make it flakier. I don’t know about you, but all of the “homemade” pie crust recipes I find, all use a food processor. Guess who doesn’t have a food processor? Me! I’d like one, but my hands make perfectly delicious crust for now. I should post a video on how to make this crust with your hands. I’m afraid that my description in the recipe doesn’t make sense. In the recipe I mention chopping the butter into small pieces. The reason it doesn’t matter what the butter chopping looks like is because typically, this step would be done in the food processor. The point is to keep some chunks of butter, but also get it mixed in with the flour pretty good.
In the recipe, I also didn’t give a measurement for the thickness of the crust. This is simply because, I have no idea how thick the crust was. I didn’t get out a ruler and measure it. Hehe. I do apologize. However, I most likely will never measure my crust thickness.
I hope you enjoy these yummy treats! Fill them up with some yummy apple filling and enjoy!
